私が美術大学でアートを本格的に学び始めた頃、「アート」と「テレビ」（大衆番組）の“面白い”価値観には、大きな断絶があるように思った。
「アート」と社会の関係、距離感を考えたいと思った。
 
東京でバラエティ番組のディレクターをしていた友人・酒井健人（さかい・けんと）君に、私が「アート」として扱った映像の素材を見てもらい、渡した。 そしてその素材を「テレビ番組にするなら、どうすれば面白くなるか」を一緒に議論し、批判されながら、彼が必要だと思う映像を追加で撮影して、最終的に再編集してもらった。以下は二人の会話の抜粋。
 
酒井：コンプライアンスとかを俺は気にしなくていいの？
田中：なにそれ？
酒井：なんか、これ要はさ「やらせ」ってことじゃん。
田中：…やらせっていうの、これ！？（笑）
 
酒井：「マックで掃除をする」って行為があまりにもつまらないっていう。
田中：あー…画的に？
酒井：うん、画的に。そんなに「衝撃的」じゃないと。何かが爆発するでもなければ、君が転げ落ちるわけでもないと。
田中：落ちないね、あそこから。
 
 

When I first began seriously studying art at art university, I felt there was a significant disconnect between what was considered "interesting" in the world of "art" and in "television" (popular programming).
 
I wanted to explore the relationship and sense of distance between art and society.
 
So I asked a friend of mine, who was working as a variety show director in Tokyo, to watch some footage I had used in my art practice.
I gave him the material, and together we discussed how it could be made "interesting" if it were turned into a TV program.
While being critiqued by him, I reshot the footage he felt was necessary, and in the end, he re-edited it.
 
Sakai: Do I not need to worry about compliance or anything?
Tanaka: What do you mean?
Sakai: Well, basically, this is just a “setup,” right?
Ryosuke: ...This is a setup? haha 
 
Sakai: The act of “cleaning at McDonald's” is just too boring. 
Tanaka: Ah... Visually?
Sakai: Yeah, visually. It's not that “shocking.” Nothing explodes, and you didn't fall down. Tanaka: Right, I didn't fall from there.
