《鼻歌、鯨、あるいは言葉の行く先》

同性婚に関する国会の答弁書※を読んだ時、内容の賛否以前に、その言葉の奥に具体的な人間が感じられない気がした。この言葉はいったい誰の言葉なんだろうか？　人間の生の身体が感じられなかった。
 
たまらなくなった私は、その文書をプリントアウトし、短冊状に切って口に挟みながら、その答弁を読み上げてみた。口を閉じながらの発話は言葉というより鼻歌のように体を通っていった。言葉の短冊を口に挟んださまが鯨のひげのように見え、今度は家の風呂に潜りながら答弁を発してみる。声が泡となり漏れていく。言葉の短冊が風呂に溶けていく。

When I read the written response from the National Diet regarding same-sex marriage*, what struck me wasn’t the content or its stance, but how utterly absent any trace of real human presence felt behind the words. Whose words are these? I couldn't feel the physical presence of a human being.
 
I couldn’t bear it.I printed the entire document, cut it into thin strips, and placed them between my lips as I read it aloud. Speaking with my mouth nearly closed, the words came out more like a hum than speech. Passing through my body like a song.
 
The strips of text sticking out from my mouth resembled the baleen plates of a whale. So next, I submerged myself in the bathtub, reading the government’s words underwater.My voice turned to bubbles and escaped. The paper strips dissolved into the bathwater.
