「UnCollective」、略して「UNC」は「排泄」という根源的な事象を押し広げて捉え、活動するコレクティブである。現在の主なメンバーは鷲尾怜、岡村皓史、櫻井想、吉野はるか、田中 永峰 良佑。
以下は田中によるステートメント。
２０２０年、私はコロナウィルスによる未曾有のパンデミックによる社会の強迫的な同調圧力や展覧会などの機会の喪失に直面し、精神が不調に陥ってしまった。部屋で何もできないまま一日が終わることをみじめに感じていた。
しかし「なにか生産的なことをしたい（しなければならない）」という無意識の強迫観念こそ、考えるべきことだと考え始めた。
そんな中、期せずして介護のアルバイトを始めた私は、他者の排泄物に接しながら「排泄をする」ということの切実さが胸に迫り、たとえどんな生活でも「生きていること」そのものを肯定しなければいけないと感じた。
その後、友人のアーティスト鷲尾怜さんと対話を深め、「UnCollective」（一つに集まらない）という名称でコレクティブを立ち上げた。その話に共鳴してくれた岡村皓史さん、櫻井想さん、吉野はるかさんに参加してもらえることになった。
社会の中で「生産性」がないとされる人を揶揄する「うんこ製造機」という言葉もあるが、そんな「生産性」や「自己実現」のような言葉が内にも外にも渦巻く社会という場所で、UnCollectiveは「排泄」という生きていることの証明である根源的な事象を手がかりとしたい。そして「人が生きるなかで何かを生産する／しないとは何なのか」または「社会の規範の中に“Collect”されずに排除される存在」について、一つの集まりとして排他的になることなく「UnCollective」に、それぞれの身体と経験から考えていきたい。
UnCollectiveは会議を重ね２０２３年にZINEを１冊制作・発刊・販売しており、現在も不定期かつ継続的に活動している。
“UnCollective,” or “UNC” for short, is a collective that seeks to expand and reconsider the very concept of “excretion.” Its current core members are Rei Washio, Hiroshi Okamura, So Sakurai, and Haruka Yoshino, Ryosuk N. Tanaka.
In 2020, during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, I found myself overwhelmed by the coercive pressure to conform socially and by the sudden loss of opportunities such as exhibitions. My mental state deteriorated, and I felt miserable as each day ended without a sense of having accomplished anything.
Over time, I began to realize that what truly needed to be questioned was the unconscious compulsion behind the thought, “I must be productive.”
Around this period, I started part-time work in nursing care. Coming into direct contact with others’ excrement, I was struck by the profound immediacy of what it means “to excrete.” It became clear to me that, regardless of one’s circumstances, life itself is something that must be affirmed.
Through deep conversations with my artist friend Rei Washio, we founded a collective under the name “UnCollective” (meaning “not gathered into one”). Soon after, Hiroshi Okamura, So Sakurai, and Haruka Yoshino also joined, resonating with the idea.
In society, those deemed “unproductive” are sometimes dismissed as mere “shit-producing machines.” Yet in a world saturated with terms like “productivity” and “self-realization,” I wanted to reflect, through the unavoidable act of excretion that every human performs for as long as they live, on what it really means to produce or not to produce in human life. I also wanted to consider those marginal existences who do not fit into society’s norms, who are left uncollected and excluded, and yet live with dignity from within their own bodies and experiences Un-Collectively without becoming exclusive as a one group.
UnCollective has since held regular meetings and published one ZINE, which it produced, issued, and distributed. The group continues its activities intermittently yet with persistence.
